THE GLORIA 3 MIDI HYMN PLAYER
If only you had a little box - the size of a hymnal
- that could play any of the songs in the hymnal, in any key, at any
tempo. You could use it to accompany the soloist or the congregation.
And, if you could select one part to play by itself, each section of the
choir could learn and practice their individual parts. That is why we
have developed GLORIA3, the compact digital orchestra.
Not only can it do all of this, but it can play with the realistic
sounds of up to 100 included instruments. And, each song has been
professionally recorded on 16 tracks in an appropriate style, with a
combination of instruments already selected. Of course you can also
select your own preferred instruments or combinations of instruments.
All of the music is stored in a memory chip inside the box. The Gloria 3 MIDI Hymn Player is designed to bring hymns back to the American Church. Since 1994 a small group of men and women in America have been perfecting a most unusual device. It is called the Gloria MIDI orchestra, and it is a device that allows you to play and listen to music MIDI files. A MIDI file is the electronic counterpart of the old player piano roll that had slots cut into waxed paper. When the slot passed over the appropriate hole, it triggered a mechanical device that caused a piano to play the particular note associated with that hole. Soon people learned that if they attached the roll to an organ, the same roll would play the same notes on the organ. A MIDI file is an electronic file simply like the holes in that paper roll. It will play the instrument you choose. By combining 16 blended electronic MIDI channels, each “playing” a different instrument, you get the sound of an orchestra. To get this effect requires painstakingly playing the part of every different instrument overlaid over the others and making it one large MIDI file. MIDI FilesWhen we first did this, we had 5 electronic MIDI channels playing the soprano, tenor, alto and bass parts, as well as a percussion track and a small accompaniment track. The first Gloria contained the songs from the entire Celebremos su Gloria Spanish Hymnal. When we released the device in 2000, it promptly sold 3000 units by word-of-mouth advertising, causing us to run out of stock for 3 years until we were able to build several thousand more in China. Again, we ran out of Gloria 2 units, and still had no advertising. Most were sold in Spanish-speaking countries, but many began to be used in America because the music is the same no matter what language you sing in. When the Chinese factory we were using went bankrupt, we decided we had to bring production back to the US and we had to re-design the unit to use American parts. In early 2008 we began the process, and the result was that in early 2010 Gloria 3 will be released to North America.
In the intervening years between 2000 and present, we mastered the electronics so that Gloria 3 is a marvel of technology. She plays 16 MIDI tracks instead of 5 like the former models. She is Internet compatible, and can be repaired and upgraded over the Internet, allowing us to be able to release new songs at any time over the Internet. In the intervening years between our inception and now, one company has released a MIDI player that is similar in sound to our first Gloria but sells for $1300, to $2200. Gloria 3 is targeted to sell for much less than the others The best part is that we have partnered with Word Music and Integrity Music to digitize the Celebration Hymnal which is arguably the best selling hymnal in America. The incredible orchestral sound of Gloria 3 will make it the premiere device of its kind in the world. Competition uses 5 channels of sound, and Gloria 3 uses 16 channels of sound. You have to hear it to believe it! Hymns like you have never heard them beforeIt is our belief that one of the reasons why hymns have fallen out of favor in the Church in recent years is because most people equate hymns with the organ sound. Unlike yesteryear when they were the instrument of choice, today organs are used for funerals, and sometimes weddings. New Christians have not been exposed to the hymns of yesteryear because they are either too difficult for the few remaining organists to play, or they prefer the contemporary sound of guitars, keyboard and drums. Now, for the first time in history, you can hear the majestic sound of hymns being played with contemporary instruments and added percussion! And if you prefer strings to trumpets, you just tell Gloria 3 to play the hymn with your favorite instruments. Every hymn is played with your particular favorite combination of instruments, with full orchestral backup (or no backup.) Gloria 3 is infinitely variable. Every time a new Gloria model was introduced in the past, the Celebremos su Gloria Hymnal sales increased by 200,000 hymnals. We expect the sales of the Celebration Hymnal to be substantially increased.
